Class Sessions
Introduction
0:51
In this session, Craig gives a brief overview of everything you will learn in this class- from preparing the sheep, shearing, cleaning and processing the wool to using it in a fun a meaningful project.
Shearing
12:20
In this session you will learn how to shear a sheep! Craig takes you through the process of preparing both the sheep and the area where you will be shearing. He then talks about the proper tools to use, the position the sheep should be in while you are shearing, and the best methods and techniques for safely shearing.
Skirting and Washing
7:15
Once the wool is removed from the sheep, the next step is skirting and washing. This process removes the unusable sections from the wool and cleans the wool of any dirt or debris.
Picking
4:45
Once the wool is clean and dry, it’s time to remove any bits of grass or other vegetation that might still be caught in the wool prior to moving on with the processing- Craig demonstrates different ways to do this.
Carding
13:04
Before wool can be spun, it is necessary to get the fibers of the wool all going in the same direction. Craig shows how to do this multiple ways, by hand and by machine.
Spinning
12:54
Spinning the wool is the final step before it can be used, and Craig demonstrates how to do this to create a single ply of yarn and then how to spin two together to make a double ply yarn.
Project
8:39
After the full process of shearing a sheep, cleaning and washing the wool, carding and spinning it- it’s time to make something! See a quick and easy hat you can make and hear about how using wool from your own sheep to make gifts can have lasting memories.
