Extra Tools for Knitting: Scissors

Jen Lucas
Duration:   2  mins

Description

Once you’ve learned the knitting basics, there are a few extra tools that you’ll need to complete your projects. In this video, Jen Lucas discusses all things scissors. Since many people like to travel with their knitting, Jen will also discuss the best travel scissors so that you’re ready to complete your next knitting project at any time.

Scissors, like many knitting notions, are all about personal preference. If you’re traveling with your knitting project, having a small foldable pair of scissors or even a pair of nail clippers work well for cutting your yarn. There are also small scissors with covers, which are great for protecting your knitting when the scissors are in the same bag as your knitting project. Any pair of scissors will work for cutting your yarn, and it’s all about finding the pair of scissors you are most comfortable using and putting in your knitting bag.

Hi, I'm Jen Lucas for "The Knitting Circle." In this video, let's take a look at scissors. Scissors are another knitting notion that are going to be important to have in your knitting bag. When you end off a project, you just want to snip that yard, weave in your end and be done. So let's go ahead and take a look at scissors. Another extra tool you're gonna wanna have in your knitting bag is scissors. Like many of the knitting notions, it does kind of come down to preference in terms of which one you're gonna wanna have in your bag. But I'm just going to show you a few different options here today. These are all very small little scissors, but you could also use a regular pair of scissors, or a pair of kid's craft scissors to cut your yarn. Those are definitely options. I'm more looking at smaller scissors that you might want to take with you as you're working on your knitting project. So I really like this pair here. As you can see, it has a cover that goes on the end, which is really nice because it's going to protect your yarn and your knitting project from the scissors while it's in your bag. These ones here are very similar in that the cover comes off and stays attached. And these are very tiny little scissors, but they definitely get the job done when you need to trim your yarn. I also have this decorative pair here. This is one that I wouldn't necessarily throw into my knitting bag because I don't have a cover on the end of the scissors, but, again, another option. I also really like these foldable scissors. These are really great if you are traveling on an airplane or something. They're very small and they fold up, and they don't take up any room really in your bag. And then finally, if you are worried about your scissors, and especially with air travel, I actually always travel with nail clippers in my knitting bag because these will cut your yarn in a pinch. So they don't work as good or as easily as scissors obviously, but you can actually cut your yarn with nail clippers. So that is an option too for you, if you like. Scissors really come down to personal preference, like many other notions. In particular if you're somebody that travels a lot, you'll really wanna think about which type of scissor is right for you and the length of the scissor and everything like that. I'm Jen Lucas for "The Knitting Circle" and I hope you enjoyed this video and I'll see you again soon.
