Mesh Stitch Patterns
Jen LucasDescription
SIMPLE MESH
This stitch pattern is worked over an odd number of stitches, repeating four rows. This pattern can be worked in garter stitch (with knitting all sts every other row) or Stockinette st (with purling all sts on every other row). In the sample shown in the video, the stitch pattern is worked in garter stitch – it’s the simplest of them all!
Row 1 (RS): Knit all sts.
Row 2 (WS): K1, *yo, k2tog; rep from * to end.
Row 3: Knit all sts.
Row 4: K2, *yo, k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1.
Rep Rows 1 – 4 for patt.
IRISH MESH
The Irish Mesh stitch pattern goes by several names. You may also see it called Irish Mesh Lace, Irish Eyelet Lace, or a variety of other names. This stitch pattern is worked over a multiple of three stitches as follows:
Row 1 (RS): K2, *yo, sl1, k2, psso; rep from * to last st, k1.
Row 2 (WS): Purl all sts.
Row 3: K1, *yo, sl1, k2, psso; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.
Row 4: Purl all sts.
Rep Rows 1 – 4 for patt.
DIAGONAL OPENWORK MESH
This stitch pattern is a little more involved than the previous two stitch patterns, as it is worked over a multiple of 4 plus 2 stitches, repeating 8 rows. Jen notes that this stitch pattern uses the sk2p stitch, and for this stitch pattern, she likes to work that stitch by slipping the first stitch knitwise, knitting two stitches together, and passing the slipped over.
Row 1 (RS): K1, yo, *sk2p, yo, k1, yo; rep from * to last 5 sts, sk2p, yo, k2.
Row 2 and all even-numbered rows (WS): Purl all sts.
Row 3: K2, *yo, sk2p, yo, k1; rep from * to last 4 sts, yo, sk2p, yo, k1.
Row 5: K2tog, yo, *k1, yo, sk2p, yo; rep from * to last 4 sts, k1, yo, ssk, k1.
Row 7: K1, k2tog, *yo, k1, yo, sk2p; rep from * to last 3 sts, yo, k1, yo, ssk.
Row 8: Purl all sts.
Rep Rows 1 – 8 for patt.
